Warning over unlicensed waste carriers

New warning over apps used to dispose of waste

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a new warning over waste criminals using apps to illegally dispose of waste. New apps where users can 'advertise' their waste that needs collecting are running without the proper licensing in place, allowing unregistered waste carriers to use the platform and dispose of waste illegally. The apps themselves would need to register as upper tier waste carrier to operate.

As a waste producer, you have a duty of care to make sure that your waste is disposed of correctly and safely. Using these types of apps can lead to dangerous disposal of waste, potentially causing harm to people and the environment. Failing to meet your duty of care could leave you facing a £400 fine or other penalties, such as prosecution.

If you're not using a licensed waste carrier, you could be leaving yourself exposed to heavy fines as it is classed as a criminal offence. Check out our blog for more information on why you should always choose a licenced waste carrier.
